For me the slap bass line that Freddie Washington plays on "Forget Me Nots" by Patrice Rushen, epitomizes the concept of "much harder than it sounds." The bass line sounds easy, because it is mostly eighth notes with a few sixteenths sprinkled in, played at a medium tempo, and often using octaves. For a bassist acquainted with the slap technique, those things all sound pretty idiomatic and simple.
