All Lidl stores will be closed on New Year's Day with the exception of the company's New York stores, which will open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., a company spokesperson confirmed to USA TODAY.

The first official day of 2026 lands on Thursday, Jan. 1. If you're hoping to spend New Year's Day shopping, Target stores will be open during normal business hours. That said, hours may vary among stores, so to ensure a Target near you is open, use the store locator or store app to confirm openings and closings.

So whether you are doing your first shop of the year to get ahead on your to-do lists, or you are looking for essentials to soften the blow after the New Year’s Eve festivities, there are grocery stores that will have their doors wide open for you.

Although many businesses are closed on the federal holiday of New Year's Day, that won't be the case everywhere.

Most restaurants are typically open on New Year’s Day. This includes fast food places like McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, Whataburger and Subway as well as other national chains such as IHOP, Cracker Barrel and Waffle House.

As the year comes to a close, millions of Americans turn to Target for groceries, essentials, and post-holiday deals — and knowing the store’s New Year hours can save both time and stress.

Included in that group is Target, as the company said in a news release last month, its stores will be closed on Christmas Day this year. Stores will reopen under their normal hours on Friday, Dec. 26. In addition to Target, the following retail stores will be closed on Dec. 25.
